I have always been put off by the japanese expression 社会人 (ShaKaiJin) “society + man”. Litteraly and in an ideal world, it would just apply anybody. At least the japanese - english dictionnary agrees to that notion of a “member of society”. On the other hand the japanese dictionnary gives the following definition : “someone who left the !!!! le nid familial or the education system to earn his living”. Nothing thought provocating here but what is really puzzling about this expression is the way it is used and its underlying meaning.
